Parquet Floors are made of a decorative mosaic of wooden blocks. The patterns are angular (e.g. squares etc) and the most common floor parquet pattern is a herringbone arrangement
Woods with a contrast in grain and/or colour are used (e.g. pine, oak, maple, cherry etc) although more expensive hardwoods can be used (e.g. mahogony). Bamboo is an increasingly popular choice for modern floors.
Hot bitumen was traditionally used to stick the wood blocks down although modern adhesives are now more common.
